With great sadness, Hillel announces the death of Keith Lowenthal z”l. He was a wonderful person, a great friend and those who knew him appreciated his charm and humor. He had a terrific 28 years of life.
Keith was a FSU alum and Hillel participant over the past several years. After law school he stayed in Tallahassee and became a member of Shomrei Torah.
Because Keith often spoke of Congregation Shomrei Torah and his relationship to the synagogue, his parents want to bring themselves closer to Keith’s spiritual side by experiencing the regular Shabbat service in a way that Keith would have. Friends and family are invited to the Shabbat service next Friday, May 1 at 8 p.m. instead of planning a separate memorial. Everyone is invited to speak with parents and share your special memories of Keith with them during the Oneg after the service and to share special memories of Keith. His parents have asked that either a donation be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), or that a prayer book be purchased for Shomrei Torah because the synagogue was so important to Keith.
In addition, a close friend of Keith’s shared this information with us.
JDRF fundraiser tomorrow in Tallahassee – see the information below.
2nd annual May Family Dollars For Diabetes Car Wash
When: Saturday, April 25th, 10am-2pm
Where: Farmers & Merchants Bank at 3320 Thomasville Road.
This annual event was started by the family of a local 12-year old girl who has diabetes herself and wanted to do something to raise money for research. Last year, with a goal of $500, the carwash raised over $5,500 for the American Diabetes Association. 100% of collections get donated to the ADA. So – If you have some free time tomorrow, please go get your car washed and support this great cause.
To avoid exchanging money on Shabbat you may send donations to the bank, drop off a check today (Friday) or send your remembrance to Shomrei Torah.
We will miss you.

Keith, devout in his beliefs, was an admirable, giving person. Giving to the fundraiser is an excellent way to honor him. Keith is greatly missed. I look forward to the service on May 1st.

i am an uncle by marriage of keith’s brother brian. i spent numerous family functions with keith and while i didn’t know him that well he always greeted me with great warmth and respect. i felt his spirit and immediately knew that this kid was some kind of mensch! i grieve that he was not given the opportunity to bestow his aura upon more family and friends. rest in peace my good man; the world is a smaller place without you.

To my Beloved Son Keith:
I will miss you so so much.
Your charm, your integrity, your humour and your intelligence….You were a kind, gentle and patient teacher and an exceptional listener.
I will carry you in my heart forever and ever.
Rest in peace my baby.

Keith: Your extended Frost family misses you so much and wishes we had spent more time with you during the past five months we knew you. You felt like a part of the family the first time I met you. Thank you for your uplifting humor, and the special kindness you showed to Connor, to “Grandma” and to all of us. You will never be forgotten.

Dearest Keith,
You are so missed, and I am sure you know how much you have always meant to me, your friends, and family. It seems like just yesterday you and I were cruising around Plainview in that Oldsmobile, laughing, singing (off key), and making the same old joke about how much coffee we drank. I have been a wreck since hearing of your passing, however I know that I am doing just what you would want, and going out for a drink in your honor, and celebrating your life. It’s a shame you will not be here to watch the Mets blow it again in August, but I know you are watching wherever you are. You’re always a best friend to me, and I love and miss you dearly. Keith: Andy and I feel that we were very privileged to have known you these past five months and thank God for bringing you into Julia’s and our family’s lives. You blessed us with your positive attitude and thoughtfulness. You are a very intelligent and Godly young man. I want to thank you so much for all that you taught to Julia and for being such a good friend to her. I know she loves you very much. Your faith in God and your friendship has drawn Julia closer to the Lord and has changed her outlook on life. You have a wonderful gift of listening and making everyone feel special and comfortable talking with you. Grandma Frost and I enjoyed our talks with you about the Lord. Our family enjoyed sharing dinners, birthdays and holiday meals with you. You became part of our family. I appreciate the Birthday and Valentine cards you sent me, which included your long… and thoughtful messages. I know I thanked you for your sweet messages, but I never told you that I didn’t mind you taking my daughter away for Valentines Day. I am so glad that you asked her to go home with you and give her the opportunity to meet your mom, dad, Brian and his family. I got the opportunity to meet them, your grandfather, your Aunt Barbara, and other members of your family this past week and they were all so kind and hospitable to us; just like Julia had told us after her trip back in February. They raised and taught you well. We will miss you so much, but we know that you are with the Lord now and in a much better place. We will never forget you and hope to see you in heaven some day in the future.
Janet

I am Keith’s sister-in-law. Keith touched so many lives ~ those that got to know him were lucky. Not only did I lose a brother, but I lost someone I knew I could always share a good laugh with. I was always so proud of Keith’s faith in Judaism. He was a wonderful brother & uncle and he was always smiling. He will be terribly missed, but I know that he is watching us every day.

Keith, you will be missed dearly.

The words escape me still, but Keith was a wonderful friend. It never mattered if we hung out everyday or once every three or four months, it was like nothing ever changed. I will forever remember Passover 2009 – we had such a wonderful evening at sedar, catching up on life, love, and yes, the pursuit of happiness.
I want to thank everyone who spread the word about the carwash, it was a last minute discovery and quite a great and timely one at that – b’sheret! I was told that the carwash raised over $6,000 to be donated to the American Diabetes Association. Keith would be proud.
May you rest in peace my friend.
With all my love and best wishes….
Tracy
