Holocaust survivors and descendants gathered recently, to begin creating a Holocaust remembrance project. Their goal is to make a book of photos and stories to pass down to Tallahassee area schools so students can learn from the not too distant past. The group talked about what needs to be focused on to prevent the Holocaust from happening again. The groups director says too many students are unaware of the events, and education is important to keep the memories alive. “They think it happened a long time ago but it was only 60 years ago, and we really just want to make it as real as possible even though it’s still unbelievable and overwhelming to believe it ever happened,” says Barbara Goldstein, President of the Holocaust Education Resource Council. “We are going to have the stories. The old people are going to tell the stories and we’re going to give it as a gift to the young generation,” says Cvia Rodin, a Holocaust survivor. Hillel is invited to participate with HERC to create a legacy to remember. Memories will be documented in a book as a Gift of Untold Stories to never forget the past and learn for the future.
