Helping Hands

There are several places in town which could use your help. The Shelter usually needs folks to help with food serving. Organize a group through Hillel or contact Mel Eby at the Shelter to offer your time. (224-9055) Consider organizing a small group of students to visit the senior living centers once a month for Shabbat dinner. We can bring the challah, light candles, say the blessings and enjoy dinner with someone else’s Bubbe or grandfather. Community gardens offer the opporunity to get physical and dirty — with a tasty result. There are a couple of local gardens to volunteer in. Some for food, some for flowers. If you’d like to be part of a Tzadakah Garden at Hillel this Spring contact us. Want to be involved on a community-wide level. Be part of the Tallahassee Equality in Action Ministry (TEAM). This is an interfaith group of local churches and Temple Israel who are working together to identify problems in our community. To learn more contact Barry Moline TEAM’s representative from Temple Israel

Work With Tallahassee Seniors (65+)
Tallahassee Jewish Federation’s newly formed Seniors Committee’s goal is to provide regularly scheduled social and educational activities for Jewish seniors. In collaboration with Hillel, the Seniors Committee is planning some wonderful events to bring Jewish students and seniors together, including a Shabbat dinner at an assisted-living facility, a Challah for Hunger activity, and a holiday social. The Seniors Committee is seeking students who are interested in hands-on volunteering, as well as those who can plan, research and coordinate events prior to the event date. If you’re interested in helping with a Hillel and Seniors Committee partnered event, or if you’d like more information about Seniors Committee, please contact Alex Bayevsky, Seniors Committee Coordinator, by phone, (850) 567-4073, or by e-mail, abayevsky@gmail.com. Along with serving an underserved population, you’ll work to bridge “town and gown”, and help a start-up get off the ground.
