This week brings us to the end of the holy days/holidays season. Wednesday night we welcome Shemini Atzeret, and pray for rain. This is followed by Simchat Torah. As part of Simchat Torah — Gladness of Torah – or Joy in the Law – the community comes together to dance, sing, celebrate and enjoy Torah. Check the calendars of the local synagogues for their activities.

This Friday night we’ll be unrolling the Torah at Hillel — not all the way- but enough for everyone to see and enjoy. If you’d like to be a part of this, bring a part of clean white socks — you’ll find out why on Friday.

The service is a 1-2-3 (one Torah, two candles, three blessings – welcome Shabbat!) with a very sweet oneg to follows. Join us at 7p.m.

Make plans to join Hillel at FSU for Yom Kippur services this weekend. Services are free and open to the public. All services will be held in room 203 of the Student Services Building above the Denny’s Diner on the Woodward Walkway near campus Starbuck’s. Love all those food references! You can’t eat during Yom Kippur so help those who can’t
afford to. Support Hillel’s annual High Holiday food drive for
Tallahassee’s Second Harvest Food Bank. Food will be collected
at all High Holiday Services and thru October 21st at Hillel.

On Wednesday night, October 5, we will hold our annual “Check up on your soul.” This is an opportunity to listen to your inner voice. It is free and it is open to anyone. Simple ground rules: 1) RSVP, 2) plan to arrive on time and stay the full time, 3) be respectful, 4) what’s spoken about says in the group.

On Wednesday night, September 28th, we’ll welcome in the New Year 5772. There will be Rosh HaShanah evening services at 7p.m. in 203 SSB (above the Denny’s on Woodward). Services are free and open to the public. You may come and go as you need to for classes. If you’ve pre-paid for dinner, plan to join us at Hillel immediately following services about 8:15p.m.
On Thursday morning, we’ll begin services at 10a.m. in 203 SSB.

Leadership Day 2011

The event is designed to give participants an introduction to leadership on campus with a Jewish twist. The purpose of Jewish Leadership Day is to provide students with the tools to get to know one another and to be exemplar leaders in our community. Jewish Leadership Day is also a valuable program for students who may not have been involved in leadership previously but would like to explore leadership opportunities in the university setting.

Hillel is participating in the Center for Multicultural Affairs Meet and Greet mixer. Come say “Shalom,” find out how you can get to Israel for Free, and learn about diversity  at FSU.

Find us for Free popcorn: Thursday, August 25th, midnight at SLC Hillel Reps will be going to The Big Lebowski midnight showing at the Student Life Cinema (SLC). It’s late, but come early and look for us in the lobby at 10:30pm for board games and schmoozing. We’ll be wearing Hillel@FSU T-shirts because we’re proud to be members of both tribes.

This Friday (8/26) we’re having a quick 1-2-3 Shabbat at Hillel at 7p.m before the FSU Luau at 8p.m.  Join your friends for the first Shabbat of the new school year. Shabbat happens Friday at 7:00pm, except on the Fridays before and during semester breaks. Sign up here for Luau info

FREE WELCOME WELCOME BACK BAGEL BRUNCH: Sunday, August 28th Noon
The schmearing starts at noon. This free Welcome Back Bagel brunch is sponsored by FSU Hillel Alumni Dr. Brian Kupfer and Seth (aka Shimon Presents) Weiner. Come by Hillel at noon for the first Bagel Brunch of the 2011-2012 year! We will take our annual group photo at 12:30pm so you’ll have plenty of time to make Convocation.
