This week brings us to the end of the holy days/holidays season. Wednesday night we welcome Shemini Atzeret, and pray for rain. This is followed by Simchat Torah. As part of Simchat Torah — Gladness of Torah – or Joy in the Law – the community comes together to dance, sing, celebrate and enjoy Torah. Check the calendars of the local synagogues for their activities.
This Friday night we’ll be unrolling the Torah at Hillel — not all the way- but enough for everyone to see and enjoy. If you’d like to be a part of this, bring a part of clean white socks — you’ll find out why on Friday.
The service is a 1-2-3 (one Torah, two candles, three blessings – welcome Shabbat!) with a very sweet oneg to follows. Join us at 7p.m.

Join us Sunday, October 16 at 4pm at the FSU Student Life Cinema forThe Rape of Europa a gripping nonfiction thriller about the systematic plunder of Europe’s great art treasures by the Nazis during the years of Third Reich and World War II.
Centered around the theft of Gustav Klimpt’s famous Gold Portrait, stolen in 1938 from a family of Viennese Jews, then eventually recovered and returned to them after the war (it’s the most expensive painting ever sold), this fascinating documentary chronicles the systematic removal of paintings, sculptures, religious and decorative art and other treasures from museums and private collections in all of the countries occupied by the Nazis.
The film is the first of four co-sponsored by the Holocaust Education Resource Council, Hillel at FSU, the Tallahassee Film Festival and the Tallahassee Film Society. While we encourage everyone that can to purchase a student ticket as a donation, we will be allowing FSU students in free with their Student ID to fill any remaining seats.
